Autism Spectrum Therapies Expands Services to San Diego County
Scientifically-Validated Methods for Autism Therapy Offer Families Options and Hope
Culver City, CA, April 1, 2009 – Autism Spectrum Therapies (AST), an agency providing autism services throughout southern California, is expanding its services to San Diego County. AST also provides behavior therapists throughout Greater Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Orange Counties to serve individuals with autism from infancy through adulthood, and to provide comprehensive training and support for parents and families in their homes and communities.
Autism is a complicated developmental disorder that presents itself with a wide range or “spectrum” of symptoms, from mild motor skill difficulties to more challenging behaviors, communication deficiencies and difficulties with social interactions.
“Today, one in every 150 children is diagnosed with autism, and the rate is growing by approximately 17% a year,” says William Frea, Ph.D., BCBA, Chief Clinical Officer and co-founder of AST. “Early assessment and appropriate interventions and therapies are critically important to help these children learn the social and behavioral skills they need to function in school and in life. Parents should know that funding is available for these services, which include behavior therapy, as soon as a child is diagnosed, usually around the age of two.”
In California, funding for autism services such as provided by AST is provided by the state’s Regional Centers and the public school system. Additional services are available on a private pay basis.
AST’s programs are based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), the most widely researched and scientifically-validated method for treating autism. Supervised by a highly qualified clinical staff, AST’s intensive family-focused approach incorporates natural home routines and hands-on parental participation to expedite rapid and sustainable results.
