Social Skills Groups

Group social skills instruction for ages three to eighteen.

Each child’s individualized program pulls from goals in four categories:

Socialization – building effective social interaction

Pragmatics – using verbal and non-verbal communication skills

Communication – supporting better and more extended conversational interactions

Emotion Management – teaching strategies to manage emotions and associated behaviors

Beginning, Intermediate and Advanced groups are available to accommodate each child’s skill level. This allows for more focused goals and quicker acquisition of skills.  Group assignment is determined based on the individual’s needs.

During group sessions, children are taught critical social skills and are given the opportunity to practice these skills during hands-on activities and demonstrations. Incorporated into each group session are strategies such as reward systems and video modeling. Parents attend group at least one time per month and are taught how to support the targeted social skills outside of the group setting.

Groups meet two times per week for two hours each. Each group is composed of a 3:1 child to staff ratio. Children are placed in groups with children of similar ability.
