Social Skills Groups for Teens

Group social skills instruction focusing on topics unique to teenagers.

Self-Control and Flexible Thinking Skills

We offer a number of social skills groups for teens, ages twelve to eighteen, who are having trouble with the pressures of being a teen, exhibit poor self-esteem, have poor emotion management skills, or have difficulty remaining up-to-date with the latest trends and social expectations.

Mean Jean Group: Designed to increase self-confidence so that students can properly manage the pressures of being a teen. Through hands-on activities, teens learn how to respond to issues such as bullying, peer pressure and teasing.

Social Butterflies: Appropriate for teens that have difficulty initiating social interactions. Through role-play and video modeling, teens learn how to increase self-esteem and express their feelings appropriately so they can overcome their anxiety in social situations.

Cool as Ice: This group increases the skill set of your teen so they can cope with a variety of emotional challenges they may experience. Through structured competitive games, teens learn how to deal with accusations and complaints as well as learn the important skills of compromising and negotiating. Self-control and flexible thinking skills are taught to promote better social interaction with others.

Trendy Kids Group: Through fun and interactive games, teens learn how to track pop culture so they can stay up-to-date with the latest trends. Teens also learn about teen development and how to maintain their ‘coolness’.

Instruction is taught through a didactic teaching approach which includes role-playing, structured lessons and group discussion. Teens are also given the opportunity to lead one of our younger groups in activities such as art or game time, which allows them to learn the critical skills of maintaining others’ attention and focus. Parents attend group at least one time per month, and are taught how to reinforce the targeted social skills outside the group setting through weekly homework assignments.
